PREPARING TO READ THE BIBLE

scripture inspiredBegin TODAY to read God’s Word. This alone can show you how to prepare for the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ. Bible reading is an indispensable guide for daily living.

Choose a comfortable, quiet place in which to read without distracting noise or interruption. God speaks to us and we should listen carefully. A short prayer is useful to ask God to bless our reading.

Bible reading is most effective if it is not rushed. Set aside 20-30 minutes each day to read and think about what you have read. We need this regular intake just as surely as we need our food.

Some Bible verses can seem difficult or obscure. If we find problems it is best to let scripture interpret scripture; the answers to our questions are often found in the same chapter.

Write down any difficulties of understanding in a notebook; you will find the answers in due course by your own reading or by asking other Bible readers.

Be patient. It takes time to become familiar with the Bible message and the background of Bible times. Gradually it will fit together like a beautiful jigsaw puzzle.

Bible reading must be regular, patient and respectful to God. A Bible Reading Guide, with explanatory notes and selected chapters to be read during one year, is available on request.

THE BIBLE IS A DIVINE LIBRARY IN YOUR HANDS

source of faith

The Bible is not just the world’s most wonderful literature. It is the Word of God, directly given by Him for all to read.

It is the unique account of God’s dealings with mankind in the past, His message for us today and His promises for the future.

The unity, truth and divine origin of the 66 Books of the Bible become increasingly certain as you read them. Although written by many different writers over 1,500 years, God is the Author and His message is the same throughout. “Holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Spirit”, 2 Peter 1:21.

Jesus endorsed the scriptures as the Word of God. No critic can compare with that; because Jesus’ respect for the scriptures received the ultimate approval when God raised His Son to eternal life, just as the scriptures had foretold.

God has wisely designed the Bible so that we shall always have plenty of interesting and enlightening things to discover all through our lives. We shall never finish finding out ALL there is to know from God’s Word.
